The authors of Be Your Own Manager, Bernhard Kerres and Bettina Mehne, met at the Wiener Konzerthaus (Vienna Concert House). Bernhard was the CEO and Artistic Director of the Wiener Konzerthaus from 2007 to 2013. Bettina was Head of Artistic Planning during that time. In 2013 they both founded HELLO STAGE, the classical music community. Having worked with hundreds of musicians, they realized that self management was a huge issue. So they decided to write a book about it and started teaching career management.

The Association of British Orchestras (ABO) awarded Bernhard Kerres and Bettina Mehne the prestigious “Artist Manager of the Year” in 2018 for their book.

Coaching with Bernhard Kerres

Bernhard Kerres

A true digital native – and often nomad, too – Bernhard has always championed innovation, being as a consultant to corporations, as executive in tech companies, or as leader in the traditional world of classical music.

Bernhard started his career as an opera singer. He was a strategy consultant as well as C-level executive of high tech companies. Before founding HELLO STAGE he was CEO and Artistic Director of the Wiener Konzerthaus.

Bernhard has an MBA from London Business School. He was awarded the Austrian Cross for Science and Art and the Chilean Bernardo O’Higgins Order.

Today Bernhard works with entrepreneurs from all areas supporting them in building up their businesses. He teaches career management for musicians and coaches artists.

Bettina Mehne

For many years Bettina has been on the other side of the classical music business as Artistic Manager of The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and as Head of Artistic Planning at the Wiener Konzerthaus before taking a first step back to the artist management side as an entrepreneur co-founding  HELLO STAGE and as co-author of the book “How to be your own manager“ (which the ABO awarded with “Artist Manager of the Year” in 2018).

Bettina has joined Keynote Artists in 2019 as a consultant playing a more direct role in the careers of a group of exceptional artists.
